A Study of Black Tulips -- Photos

Below are various shots of my 'Queen of Night' tulips, quickly fading in early summer heat (the white ones are long gone). I find their textures and colors to be even more striking as they end their bloom period. Don't forget to click on the photos to expand and see even more detail. I admit, I cropped some of these--which I usually don't do--but that's all the manipulation I did. I'm an au naturel kinda guy.

    I've never much liked tulips. I'm still uncertain. However, this year, I've got quite fascinated by what they look like close up - inside and out.

    I love the look of tulips from the their first appearance as a bud, through all the changes as they mature and then as they wilt...stunning...

    Esther--I like your closeups. I've really been itno these sorts of shots lately, even though I tend to despise them in general. Or have. I don't much like tulips, but I have black and white ones for some early May interest. My garden is a later summer / fall garden.

    Donna--The wilting really has me enthralled this year. I wonder why....

    Queen of the Night is my favorite tulip. They bloom rather late here, but are still a favorite. Nice and unusual perspective on them too.

    I have to admit, my garden is pretty much a summer/fall one as well...and after spending all last spring wishing I'd planted a little something for spring color, I finally planted a few tulips last fall. I'm so glad I did, they'll never be my favorite plants, but it's so nice to see some height and color at this time of year.
