Crocodile Crocus Crosses Circus

I like alliteration. So much so that many nachos were sacrificed for my lunch time crocus sandwich. (eh) The crocus have been blooming since 2/22, a full three weeks earlier than normal. I even trimmed tree branches and began cleaning up in prep for my vegetable experiment (a new bed, and I don't believe you people who say growing veg is easy. Ornamentals are easy.).

I ate some of the flowers, so here are what's left:

You're thinking: "Wow, so that's what crocus look like! I had no idea. I haven't seen any others in my garden, or on 50 other blogs this week. Thank you. You have the best gardening / writing blog ever. And you're so attractive. Man. You got the whole package going on. Are you married?"

  1. (I know you're married but) Can you eat crocuses? Stamens equals saffron, but the petals?

  2. Sure, there have been lots of other crocus photos - but I must say that yours are truly among the best I've seen (definitely including my own)!

And I echo the question, Can you really eat crocus blossoms?

  4. Oh, but we can never get too many crocus photos because everyone sees them differently. And that goes for all nature.

  5. They always prompt memories of Easter Sunday for me. Too bad they are a month and a half ahead of Easter.

Don't worry about showing yet more photos of the same thing others are showing. We can pick and choose whose pixels we want to see and leave a comment on. We have free will.

  8. LP--Oh, we CAN get too many photos. I took 200.
Les--Easter is for pasque flowers, but this year I bet they bloom before, since it's already and odd pre spring.
DD--Classic hort humor? You think? you should see me all dirty and sweaty--beefcakeville.

  9. I looked up 'famous' crocus quotes. There were four. This one seems most appropriate:

Her crocus dress she wore, lowcut, belongings on show. - James Augustine Aloysius Joyce: Ulysses.

  12. I am not tired of seeing crocus photos, and won't be, because they don't last that long. Some of mine are already finished.

I like your seed growing set up.

  13. With the beauty that crocus possess, gardeners and home owners will indeed want to take a lot of photos of them. Being in the lawn maintenance Phoenix line of work, flowers provide a certain charm to the lawn or garden. It just makes them more alive.
