It means Minnesota Twins baseball. Screw gardening, warm weather, nature, end of school year. Bah--all over hyped. This is the last year of the dome in Minneapolis, and I for one will miss the 100% chance of no inclimate weather or blood-sucking insects the size of blue jays. This year no loss in a 1 game playoff to see who makes the postseason, just a nice 7 game lead to win the division (and the joy of knowing the Yankees failed once again after spending the equivalant of Brazil's GNP).
Okay. As long as the Blue jays win the world series, you can have your Twins win the division. (see, I know so little I dunno if they're American League or the other guys.)
That's all I'm sayin'.
Boston Red Sox opening day....rained out! I don't even know if they are in the same league as your beloved Twins but my sisters are devoted fans.
It didn't even mean baseball in Chicago yesterday, as the White Sox home opener was postponed until today. Something about snow on the field...
Jodi--Yeah, they are both in the American league, but the Jays won't make any noise this year so the Twins will still win the World Series. Are there still teams in Canada? :)
Susan--Why do you pick the worst team in baseball????
Gardeness--Two of you? Oh my my my.
Layanee--Yes, same league, but the BoSox are the stronger team--more seasoned, not as young.
MMD--See, MN has 5" of snow too, and I don't want cancelled games left and right with an outdoor stadium.
I don't pick my teams just because they are winners! Geez. What kind of fan do you think I am!
I pick them because their uniforms are pretty.
Got a soft spot in my heart for the Twinnies. Started when at an early age that growing up outside of DC that they really were the original Washington Senators displaced to the Midwest. As a kid, we used to go to family reunions in the lake country of Minnesota where all my Iowa cousins were Twins fans. Then we lived outside The Cities for a couple years in the Kent Hrbek/Kirby Puckett era shortly after they became the World Series Champs with the worst-ever regular season record. Will always pull for them, even though I can't name a single player. (Still a big fan of W.P. Kinsella. Maybe I'll go back and read The Thrill of the Grass to celebrate opening day.)
Susan--Typical girl. :)
Craig--1987 was fun! That was my second year living in MN, transplanted from OK (worlds away let em tell you). I remember ticker tape parades in our elementary school hallway to celebrate the series win--I don't think anything that big had happend ever in MN, since MN teams usually choke a lot (Stars (now the Wild) and esp the Vikings). You don't know Mauer, 2 time AL batting champ? AL MVP Justin Morneau? A young version of Johan Santana (previous AL Cy Young now with the Mets) named Francisco Liriano?
