I Know Nutting!

Not much going on here. Wouldn't waste your time reading this post. Nope. Just same ole same ole. Trying to get along, trying to keep the grey-haired head above water. Running the rat race, for nothing.

Still not much happening. Someone mowed their lawn this morning. Annoying. Loud. Someone left their dog out all night. Ditto. Ditto.

Ho hum. Lots to do professionally, don't want to do it = career suicide. Would like a nap. Watch A-Team over and over or some other dumb 80s show.

Not much going on here. Still reading? This is my most cerebral post in years. End of semester brain-dead-ness alive and well (which means, I think, that I become a better teacher as I become more entertaining in class, i.e. chaotic, whimsical).

Oh. Anyone have any luck planting trees at an angle, on purpose? Or, anyone have luck pruning trees to grow in just one or two directions? Talking small, understory trees of 15-20' in height.

Love this post. Sometimes I feel like I need to post something, but there's nothing going on to report. You did it - almost felt like a Seinfeld episode.

Never planted a tree at an angle - not on purpose anyways.

I have very large shrubs that have apparently planted themselves at an angle and are far more interesting for it (think Leaning Tower of Pisa), but have never planted anything that way deliberately.

Espalier - I have a narrow spot and have trimmed an dwarf apple tree to go flat. Barking dogs way annoying.

Motivation talk: If there are no bad days there wont be happy ones, If there would never be a dog barking or a mower mowing, you would not be able to appreciate the silent moments. If there is no night there wont be day.

hopefully this makes you happy again, greetings your zen boeddhist ;)

I 'cloud pruned' an Osmanthus burkwoodii this week, was a huge bush now going in few directions sparsely. Shocked my lovely gardener by saying I'd given it a Brazilian..

Your comment about the lawn mowing made me laugh! I always feel guilty for being intolerent when other peoples lawn mowing irritates me...usually because it always commences the second I sit down for lunch or to relax.I am glad I am not alone.

Rob--On the piss. Love it. So is that cypess now arcing up more vertical, or too early? Or is it growin out straight on that 15 degree line? Thinking of doing this.
Heather--I know. Must post something, and something comes from nothing, and this is nothing....
OFB--Well, maybe you should plant at an angle. I don't know how bold I feel.
Gloria--Yeah, espalier. That's the word.
Joost--I can appreciate silence just find when I'm in it 24/7. I don't truly know myself or feel myself or my wor;d when I'm constantly interrupted while being in it. By humans. Interrupted by humans. I'm a writer. My best writing, hands down, comes when I am in perfect sensorial isolation. NO doubt. Thoughts must come free and direct, no distraction. I'm almost on a diatribe.
Marian--Brazilian? Did you see those commericals last year from some women's shaving company comparing trimming "that area" with pruning shrubs? I have a post on it somewhere on my blog.
Nina--And you know when they mow? As soon as you get hoe from work, stressed an tired. There is no need to mow all the time! As soon as one guy mows, then the other does. Nonstop. Grrrr. Then the blow the clippings around (here in NE the wind is often at 20-30mph, so why blow?). And all that air pollution. Oh, it really gets me going. Fertilize with uranium less = mow less = relax more = pollute less = more wildlife.

Ditto espalier. I am in the process of starting a new orchard and am in the process of starting the training process. The trick is starting while they are young. It's difficult to train older trees. I don't even know if it's possible. Planting on an angle is fine. Just tie the new growth down to a support or the new growth will grow up. I'll be doing a post on my espalier in the next week or so with links and such.

Are we talking fruit trees?

I think you'd feel much better with a little exercise and a good night's sleep. Try mowing the dog around midnight then tuck yourself in.

Hmmm. I have a dog that barks, but only sometimes, never at night. It's The Dan - I don't know why I have a barking Pointer (maybe that's why she's a rescue?).

So your day sounded like how I feel during many of mine. Ugh. Sometimes you just want it to all go away.
