Year in Pics (A Year Being Since August)

I've taken some pictures I like since moving in to the new home and beginning the garden. I don't have many of my own plant pics because my plants are babies, so some are of other gardens / places, but the insects are all mine. So, continuing the tradition of other blogs doing year-in-review posts, I give you five months.

Very nice wedding photo, and the garden pics are great too. Man, you've got some big spiders out there.

Hey Pam, we do have some big spiders. I've never seen so many, but maybe it's because we live in a _slightly_ more rural area now on the edge of town. In any case, the big mean looking one is a wolf spider, and the funnel spider is actually quite small, but a cousin of the wolf. We also get tons of toads and frogs, which I can't figure out.

Heh...the toads and frogs are there because of the bugs! And soon enough, you'll likely notice snakes coming for the toads and frogs, and so on. "...she swallowed the spider to eat the fly, I don't know why she swallowed a fly, I think she'll die." (Maybe you didn't sing that in elementary school-"There was an old woman who swallowed a fly"? Guess you had to be there ;-) Nice review!! Looks like you had an eventful year.

Hi Benjamin.

Nice pics but my fave has to be the dragonfly. I had to look at it a couple of times before I got what I was looking at.

Lisa--I remember Shel Silverstein's poem "Boa Constrictor," which to my ear sounds similiar. But yes, we have plenty of bugs for the frogs, no doubt. Thanks for stopping by!
Mr.B--I love that dragonfly pic, too, but I guess I'm so used to it that I always key in on the fly; it does blend in to the red maple sapling twigs perfectly. I must've taken a dozen shots at least and found one I was sort of happy with. I don't edit my pics, so this was the best of the lot.

In my mind it's Pete Seeger singing the Old Lady who Swallowed the Fly - and my husband singing the Boa Constrictor song [on a date, in a car - long ago!]

Your photos are great, Benjamin and I'm looking forward to seeing what you write about in the coming year.

May 2008 be a good year for you,

Benjamin: I like the 'year in review' theme! I haven't been on the blog scene for a whole year yet but I'll have to dig through some photos to see what has transpired! Love your bugs and flowers and the wedding photo is lovely! Have fun in Mexico!

Annie--2008 WILL be great because it'll be the first full year of my big 'ole garden! Hope your's will be good, too.
Layanee--It sure seems like a lot of garden blogs are pretty new; I suppose we're all on the cutting edge? I always assumed you'd been online for years....

I like your retrospective. I have wondered what kind of spider made the funnel in our shrub and now I will know what to look for.

I will look forward to seeing your garden grow.
