Happy 7th Birthday, V

Why won't cats ever be cooperative? Why? Because this is what makes them wonderful. "You want me to wear this, huh? Not going to happen dip-wad. And once I get it off, I'm gonna tear your face off ever so gently. Then you're gonna feed me five pounds of whatever I want. Shortly thereafter I will regift the food as a smorgasbord of plastic wrap, hairball, stomach acid, and down feathers. You will love me for this."

Well, happy brithday V, you're the best cat a guy could ask for (and that's saying a lot given the other cats I've had in my life). It was worth driving up to Cleveland and forking over real money for a pure bred manx such as yourself.

Ha, alas, too true about the regifting part! (At least the dog has the decency to head for a hard surface like the kitchen tile or hardwood as opposed to the priceless oriental carpet or Navajo rugs.) My own longhaired twins, Linus (looks) and Layla (brains) have a birthday this month, and I'm trying to settle on appropriate celebration activities. But I'd never, ever dare to try party hats!

Try the hats, c'mon. It might work once in a lifetime. My cat also likes those things you blow and they extend out, um, what'er they called?

Awww, a man who loves his cat. Sometimes that's pretty rare. Have you ever tried to out an elizabethan collar on a cat? Not pretty.

Oh, I LOVE my cat! He is awesome beyond words. I can put most anythign on my cat, but it doesn't stay long--I figure that's pretty good, actually.

I have a soft spot for Manx cats. Never had one myself, but I have the pleasure of the occasional company of a neighbor's. I call him Buster. I did a post about him in the cat section of my web site. Being presumptuous here, but anyway I will leave the link if you are curious. Not the best writing in the world.

At least you can see how pretty he is. Manx are also smart - at least some of them are.

Barbee--I did a lot of research before getting a cat and read that manx are known to fetch and retrieve as well as open doors via the door knob. Not my guy, but he's plenty smart, and always next to me. I'll check out your link!

Gladys Taber wrote in one of her books about their Manx. Friend Jill saw him coming across the back yard with a stick in his mouth and wondered aloud what he was doing - cats don't fetch sticks they thought. Curious, they watched as he stuck the stick into a mole's tunnel. Then he waited. Soon the stick wiggled, cat struck, and up he came with a mole! As you say, they are intelligent.
