Monarch Porn

Seriously. Look at that guy on the rudbeckia maxima and liatris. Yee ha! (It's great to finally see some monarchs after a spring of none--a spring that was perfect for them.)

Bees wanted a little sumpin' sumpin' too.

Alas, this foreplay looks like it's gone terribly wrong. Click to expand and fill me in on who that killer is.

Good to have these guys around. Not related to the other pics. Or is it. You tell me.

Unrelated as well. Here's my rain barrel I got over 2 months ago for PhD graduation and finally installed this week. It's surprisingly about full after only .20" of rain. I did find a dead bumble bee on the debris screen. So the image is related. And rain water is sensuous. Right?

Great pollinator & spider shots! I just love that last spider, it's my favorite. I didn't see any Monarch butterflies this year until my Coneflowers bloomed. I'm still waiting for my Liatris to start up.
A rain barrel is a good start. You need more than one, as I've learned this year. If yours has the facility for connecting to another barrel, run out and get one. You also might want to elevate it so it's easier to fill up the watering can. Mine is on a concrete block.

Hey Ben! Thanks for checking out my garden and for the caterpillar egg tip- good to know! I wouldn't have known. Actually, when I first posted about it, I almost sent you a note to check it out since I know you are so good at gardening, but I chickened out. I was a little embarrassed by my puny amateur garden where it is obvious I don't know much- compared to you. :) I LOVE your pictures. What kind of spider is that anyway?? That is just creepy...

And, Aaron would love to play Legos with you. I found the post to remind myself- that is incredible!!! He would love to put that back together! :)

MMD--Monarchs didn't appear here till about coneflower bloom, too, but I'e not seen them on cones--just milkweed and liatris. We do need more rain barrels, but probably not until we get better jobs. $$$
